If you read my post, High Heels. High Hopes. then you know that this year, I am attempting to evolve and improve. Part of this attempt, involves trying new things along the way. For example, I'd like to improve my inner-self. So, I tried acupuncture.
Yep. I did. Over fifteen little teeny needles stuck in my body for over an hour. And it was amazing! Honestly, I am not a very holistic person. I don't eat vegan, or organic and I try to do yoga on occasion but-- I am no Kourtney Kardashian here.
Somehow, I got it stuck in my head that I wanted to try this. (Probably the SATC episode where Charlotte visits her acupuncturist in an attempt to get preggers! Not that I am ever trying to get preggers.) Either way, I was on a mission. I did as little research as possible, and found a great acupuncture clinic near my home.
The first visit is long.
You fill out a lot of paper work, and sit through a very long conversation with your acupuncturist. They ask you a million questions, and based on these questions--come up with a treatment plan. My doctor based my treatment on overall wellness, stress and anxiety.
So, the question I am sure everyone wants to know: Did it hurt? Nope.
The needles go in virtually painlessly. The needles in your ear are the most painful and even then, a prick and you're done! Once the needle pierces the skin, you don't even know they are there. Almost immediately you feel heavy. You lose feeling in your arms and legs and are like an eight-hundred pound weight just stuck on the table. The doctor leaves, and you are there in the heated, quiet and dark room for about an hour. She comes in, removes the needles and you are done!
For the next two hours you feel like you took the World's most amazing muscle relaxer. It is wonderful.
My next appointment is this week and I am so looking forward to it. My acupuncturist has said that the stress-free feeling should last longer each time, and the overall acupuncture experience will heal the body in extremely beneficial ways.
Who knows, maybe in a few months I will be walking around in Birkenstocks and a vegan pancho? Ha! Yeah, right.
