I am officially leaving for vacation in less than 48 hours. Seeing as this trip has taken up two of my blog posts now, not to mention at least one recap when I arrive back to the States-- it's safe to say I am excited. Elated.
We work long, hard hours in Advertising. We love our clients, our agency and our business and it takes a lot of work to keep this well-oiled machine chuggin' along. So, I feel good about taking a break, unplugging and rejuvenating so that I am able to come back and do what I love, to the best of my ability.
The problem with being so close to feeling the sand between my toes, is that this requires packing. As of last night, I hadn't started. So, I convinced myself that while watching New Girl DVR, I should attempt to put some clothing items in that Hot Pink suitcase. (Yes, Hot Pink, did you expect anything less from this girl?)
I've already described a little of my clothing dilemma but, clothing does not a vacation make. We need some key accessories to jet set. Let's start with the essentials:
First: SPF. This is no joke people. I have been scarred from my dermatologist and estectichion uttering those two terrible words: sun damage. Yes, I tanned in high school. Yes, I tanned in college. I then got keen to the fact that bronze goddess now, means wrinkled leather later. To date, I have two wrinkles on my forehead. TWO! I might as well be Diane Keaton and it's not OK on any level. So- all you ladies can bet your golden bodies that mine will be slathered in SPF 70 every day, and my lovely leopard fedora will be plopped on my head.
Which brings me to the second essential: hats. Whenever you are spending seven days in the sun, you need a hat, or multiple if you are a fashion-obsessed like this girl. I like to live by the half day rule: you can have your face in the sun (with SPF 70 of course) for half the day at the beach. In the afternoon, cover up your skin and give it a break!
Third: books, music, magazines, porn whatever floats your boat to look at while you travel and vacation. For me, it's books & tunes. I am so looking forward to diving into my iPad reading list: Hunger Games, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and Steve Jobs. On my iPhone I've prepared to tantalize my ear buds with the new Fray album, The Black Keys and of course, my new obsession, The Civil Wars.
Fourth: A great small, and convenient wallet. We all know that at all-inclusives, and any where really, if you treat the bartenders nice--you get drunk. Not only do you get drunk, you get drunk faster and with less drinks thanks to those extra pours. So, single dollar bills are as essential at a resort as they are at the Crazy Horse. And you don't want a bunch of ones floating around your beach bag do you? No. So you need a smaller wallet than usual that can go from carry-on, to beach bag, to clutch with ease.
Finally, my phone. Did I say unplugged up there? Well, sort of unplugged. I'm sorry but I am not the human that can fall off the face of the Earth, and definitely not Social Media for an entire week! I mean honestly, what would I do without updating my Twitter at least a few times? What would I do if I couldn't check my work e-mail at least once a day? Okay, okay, maybe just once every other day. Either way, my phone is a little bit of a comfort zone for me, so an International Plan for me, is necessary.
These are not the only essentials to a good vacation but, they are definitely a few of my favorites.
Adios, Amigos! I'll see you dolls in a week.
