It's becoming apparent that this blog is consumed with posts about birthdays. I guess I am a teeny bit obsessed with celebrations. That said, there's something you should know about me. I have never had, or held, a surprise party.
It's always been a big bucket-lister for me. Of course I want a surprise party all about me-me-me! But, I'd also love to throw one for someone I love. So, this year, I knew it was time.
I was a little late on sending out invitations so, I decided that a Facebook invite would suffice as really, I am planning a week of activities not just one night.
I meticulously planned three days of events and figured out how to get each and every person the Birthday Girl loved in the right place at the right time.
Well, "Three can keep a secret if one of them is dead." Yes, that was a Pretty Little Liars reference.
On the way home from boxing with my two girlfriends, one of which is the Birthday Girl, I'm cooling down and of course Twittering away. When all of sudden I hear from the backseat:
"Did you know there was a bar at Whirlyball?" Morgan asked.
Whirlyball was day three of the planned birthday celebration.
I immediately shot her a look of complete and utter "shut the fuck up".
Then, the Birthday Girl replies "I can't wait, it's going to be so much fun."
Enter: me. Realizing that something is going on here. So, with the same look of "fuck" on my face but, more of a "what" then "shut", I replied "Morgan, does she know!?"
To which Morgan replied "Yes! Was she not supposed to?"
No. No she wasn't. The week of events was a surprise. I thought I had made that clear by, not including the entire reason for the party on the invitation. I hadn't.
"Well, does she know about the whole thing!?" "Nicole, what do you know?" Yep, still me with the same look.
To which the Birthday Girl replies "I don't know? The whole week! There's three different days of stuff!"
Yes, yes there is.
The cat was out of the bag. After ridiculous amounts of laughing, yelling, screaming and crying we realized that Morgan had told the Birthday Girl everything. Nothing was a surprise.
Lessons learned. Never, ever, throw a surprise party through a Facebook invitation. Never tell more than one person, and only do so if you can't handle party planning alone. And absolutely under no circumstances hold a surprise party without starting the invitation "SHHHH...it's a surprise!"
Wanted to get a head start on Nicole's birthday. I know she is feeling upset because a lot of us have travel for work in the weeks around her big day. So, let's iron out some deets.
5/21- Marg Monday at Pancho's 7 PM 5/23- We are going to do nails, and massages. Let me know if you want to join, and I'll add you in. Going to Balance Pointe for this.
5/24- Whirly Ball. I think Nicole would have a BLAST playing. It would be $15 pp and we need 10 people to play. So let me know if you plan on going. Probably around 6PM.
So, let me know who can make it and please invite others!
Gina, please invite all the TR peeps!
